Children of the Night: the Horror Readers Discussion Group

Children of the Night: the Horror Readers Discussion Group In-Person

Join Barry Deitz the 3rd Monday of each month for a Horror Readers Discussion group in the library's Local History Room.

What scares you?  Spiders?  Being alone in the house at night?  The dark?  Whatever is making that noise in the closet?  The book discussion group Children of the Night will be an exploration of the literature of fear.  Every month we will discuss a different horror theme - vampires, zombies, ghosts - and talk about how different writers approach these stories and traditions.  What makes a good horror story work?  It was once speculated that when electric lighting was in every home, there would be no more interest in scary stories which need shadowy spaces and flickering candlelight to work, but that is obviously not true.  This is a book club that dares to wonder what's out there in the dark.  And why it fascinates us.
