Bob Dylan and the Band with Craig Harris

Bob Dylan and the Band with Craig Harris In-Person

GPL is pleased to present Bob Dylan and the Band presented by Craig Harris at 6pm on Wednesday, July 16.

As seen in the eight Oscar-nominated biopic A Complete Unknown, Bob Dylan’s conversion to electric music was earth-shattering. But it didn't end there. Together with the musicians who became The Band - Canadians Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel, and Garth Hudson, and Arkansas-born Levon Helm - "the Minstrel Boy" continued to create history.

Based on his ninth book, Last Waltz: The Full Story of The Band (Bloomsbury, July 2025), music historian and Washington DC radio host Craig Harris uses rare recordings, video, and intriguing stories to trace this still-influential quintet from their days with Hawkins and Dylan through their 1990’s resurrection, Helm’s three solo Grammy winners and Robertson’s soundtracks for Martin Scorsese films including Killers of the Flower Moon.

Music historian, educator, storyteller, percussionist, photographer, and Washington, DC radio show host Craig Harris is the author of Last Waltz: The Full Story of The Band (2025), The Musical Life of Melanie (2025). Rise Up! Indigenous Music in North America (2023),  Crossing Borders (with Max Baca, 2021), as well as other works. He has appeared onstage with C.J. Chenier, Greg Brown, Jonathan Edwards, Rod MacDonald, Melanie, Mustard’s Retreat, Merl Saunders, Rick Danko (The Band), and Los Texmaniacs. The Craig Harris Show airs on WAMU-FM/Bluegrass Country Radio.
