Trash to Treasure: Improvisational Quilts from Salvaged Textiles by Laura Davis - September 2-30, Community Meeting Room
The Greenfield Public Library welcomes Laura Davis and her exhibit “Trash to Treasure: Improvisational Quilts from Salvaged Textiles”, which will be on display Monday, September 2 through Tuesday, September 30 in the Library’s Community Meeting Room.
Laura Davis is a Greenfield-based improvisational quilter working with second-hand garments, home textiles, and repurposed fabrics. Her work explores contrasts between structure and flexibility, order and chaos, trash and treasure. Laura started hand stitching before kindergarten, and learned to use a sewing machine at age seven.
She is a lifelong thrifter and upcycler who sees potential in discarded objects, and whose artwork keeps items out of the global trash stream while honoring the legacy of “women’s work.” Making quilts allows her to engage in the magic of making something out of nothing. Laura creates quilts, bags, and other items under her label BuzzWare. See more on Instagram @buzz.ware.
